He is able to do even more than we could ask or dream...

This month, I want to talk about dreaming and not allowing those dreams to die. I read this scripture a few weeks ago and felt that it was a prophetic word for many of us. God is calling us to dream again!

“Glory be to God, who by his mighty power at work within us is able to do far more than we would ever dare to ask or even dream of – infinitely beyond our highest prayers, desires, thoughts, or hopes.” Ephesians 3:20 TLB Version

Have you ever had a dream? I know I have; I have had plenty of dreams and in fact I still do. Some have come to pass and some are still a prayer, a desire, a thought or a hope in my heart that I hold before my Father in heaven, as I continue to cry out and believe for them to come to fruition. I turn 50 this month and I guess that’s brought a lot of self-evaluation and self-assessment. Thankfully, some of my dreams, hopes, desires and prayers have come to pass in the last number of years, but I know that there is still more that God has and is calling me to. As that realization continues to grow in me, it just won’t let me settle for small, mediocre or safe. He is calling me to dream some more. And after dreaming, to keep dreaming and give Him the opportunity to bring those dreams to reality. Dreams are from God! God Himself is a dreamer! He is a creative big thinking God and He has placed some of that inside you and I. When I say dreams, I am not talking about presumption or even wishful thinking, but I am talking about those things that prophetically burn with hot promise within our hearts; those things that burn with such passion and just won’t go away. I am talking about the God-dreams that God placed inside of us when He created you and me.

God, a dreamer of note (just look at planet earth and humanity), placed within us dreams that are uniquely ours. Wayne Cordeiro says, “So long as breath remains in our lungs, untapped potential lies inside us, waiting to be released. The reason we are still alive is that we are carrying something inside us that this generation needs. That’s why we’re not yet in heaven.” You and I exist now, for such a time in history, because we still have God-given dreams, desires, hopes and aspirations that need to be given birth to, lived in and lived out. Your life has immense God purpose. These God-dreams have such potential in us; but if we just leave them in us and aren’t willing to take some risks and steps of faith, they cannot be birthed and given the chance to exceed our wildest dreams. I believe in this season God is saying, “Son/daughter, dream and dream big because I desire, and am capable of doing so much more.”  God would never give you a dream or a purpose that He hasn’t already given you everything you need to live it out.

This dreaming theme, reminds me of the story of Esther in the Bible. Esther was a Jewish virgin, divinely placed in the position of the Queen of Persia. At that time in history a decree went out that all the Jews were to be killed. Her uncle Mordecai sent word to her, “Do not think in your heart that you will escape in the king’s palace any more than all the other Jews. For if you remain completely silent at this time, relief and deliverance will arise for the Jews from another place, but you and your father’s house will perish. Yet who knows whether you have come to the Kingdom for such a time as this?” (Esther 4:13-14).  Her uncle was reminding Esther that she had been positioned by God for such a time as this; for the deliverance and salvation of the Jews. This was her Divine dream and purpose in God. You all know the story and the ending. Esther found the courage to go to the King, even at the risk of being put to death. Her intervention resulted in the nation being saved. Esther didn’t think of herself or give into fear; and as a result, was able to live out her God-given dream. Mary Manin Morrissey said, You block your dream when you allow your fear to grow bigger than your faith.” Let’s not allow selfishness, fear or unbelief block us from living in our God-ordained dreams and purposes!  Arise in the Ephesians 3:20 truth, that believes in God’s unchanging nature to position you for such a time as this. For you to live in and live out all your dreams and purposes, believing that He is able and more than capable of bringing them to pass.

Don’t think like Gideon (Judges 6-8), “but I am small and insignificant. I am just one person without much money, education or resources.  What could I possibly achieve and do?”  I want to encourage you with this great truth, that one person can make a difference because you are backed by an extraordinary, incredibly powerful and capable God. Therefore the dreams He has placed within you are attainable and extremely significant. Don’t ever stop dreaming or believing for those dreams to come to pass.
